Gujarat Assembly Elections Dec-2007
Well alaas, it was a victory for BJP or should I say Narendra Modi.
Narendra Bhai as he is called by his followers in Gujarat was the only man at the centre of the entire election process. From the winning accolades for his rallies , for his development centric speeches -- to his Hindutava inspired speeches and even getting rebuked by Election Commision he was always there.

The momentum always seemed to stay with Modi though Congress managed to introduce some road blocks and even ended up accelerating his ride with the statements from Congress Leaders.
To be honest it would be difficult to judge how much mileage Modi got from statements made by Congress and was it prudent on part of Congress to re inginte the agenda which left Gujarat burning in the afermath of the 2002 riots. It was always going to be tough for Congress with Modi popularity surging among the urban middle class and urban youth in particular.
Modi's tenure at the helm of gujarat has been a productive one for gujarat and rather discomforting for the corrupt machinery and beaurocracy that was till then used to being lathargic and somnolent.

Overall this visctory augurs well for the Gujarat as it would give Modi all the more confidence to go about his policies for deelopment and probably not be occupied much about appeasing the state leadership , RSS/VHP ...
Also the defeat should make Congress introspect and realize that they lack vibrant leadership in Gujarat and to win elections they need to do more than just doing mudslinging on Modi.
